Sunday, October 11

Slept late, then got on the treadmill after breakfast. Mother came over while I was doing that and put a pork roast in the slow cooker with carrots and onions. Hubbie peeled potatoes to be boiled, which I mashed later.

Once I was ready for the day, I programmed the DVR for the week's shows, and then gathered stuff for the trip. Lunch was very good, and there's enough left over to take with us on our trip.

Mother went home after lunch, and Hubbie and I ran errands. First, we went to the store that has a sale every weekend, where I found a much needed on-sale fleece outfit, and Hubbie found a pair of on-sale shoes. We were able to apply a 15% discount coupon to our purchase, too.

From there, we went to the WDCS for last-minute items for the trip. Then we stopped by the gas station to fill the truck with diesel. This was sort of a chore, since one whole bank of pumps was out of order, and there was a long line on the other side.

After that, we went to the urgent care clinic, because once again, I awoke with a familiar infection. I spent about an hour at the clinic, with Hubbie and Shih Tzu waiting in the truck.

There were several children in the waiting room, so the receptionist advised me to sit on the opposite side of the room from them and also urged using the hand sanitizer provided, which I did, several times, before and after filling out forms, after touching door handles, etc.

While I was waiting, I heard sirens outside, but didn't try to see where they were. Later, Hubbie said that I'd missed the parade....he counted 20 fire engines and emergency vehicles in convoy traveling down the highway. I remembered then that I'd read in the newspaper that a convoy was to escort a fallen firefighter memorial statue to a newly built fire station in town.

The new fire station is just down the road from our house, so we went by to see the memorial. It is very large...eleven and a half feet high, weighing 6,000 pounds. The memorial will eventually be displayed permanently at our state capital. But it will be in our town until October 24.

Since I'm not sure what the weather after we get home from our trip, I decided we should drop by the house and get my digital camera to snap a few photos of the memorial. Mother went with us to see it.

Back home, Hubbie and I heated whole wheat pancakes (from the freezer) for supper, and then did last-minute things for the trip. After that, we watched TV for a while.

Br-r-r, it was really chilly today. I decided to pull a couple of turtleneck sweaters and my flannel jammies from storage for the trip, since predictions are for cool, rainy weather.
