Up at 6:30 to get ready to go to water aerobics. Really enjoyed this last session until we return August 22, after summer break. As soon as I returned home, I called the lady who usually stands by me during aerobics to let her know when we're scheduled to go back. She had called me yesterday to say she wouldn't be able to attend today, because she'd had a tooth extraction after having an abcess.
We have a new member, a lady I know, but haven't seen in a long time. She's a noted seamstress, who has won numberous awards, and has been featured in magazines for her original and highly creative designs.
She joined the water aerobics group because she suffered a back problem that kept her in bed for several weeks. I can relate, since several years ago, I also spent weeks in bed after throwing my back out. If there was water aerobics at that time, I wasn't aware of it, or I would have joined.
Back home, Sis accompanied Mother to our house, and then while I got ready for the day, she went to meet her 10:30 haircut appointment.
Later, we had a sandwich lunch, with fresh fruits...pineapple, cantaloupe, and watermelon. After that, Sis was ready to get on the road to her house.
Shortly after she left, Mother headed to the couch for a nap, Hubbie and I ran errands...to shop for groceries at the WDCS; to another grocery store; to a cafe' to pick up chicken salad; to the newspaper office to leave the word search puzzle contest; and to the gas station.
Back home, we did this and that until suppertime. Supper was more leftovers...spaghetti and sauce, sweet potatoes, sauteed potatoes, and beans and ham. Mother made a butter/powedered galic/Parmesan cheese spread for hamburger buns from the freezer that I thawed in the microwave and then toasted in the oven.
Afterward, I accompanied Mother to her house, and waited while she showered. Threw a load of laundry in the washer before coming back home.
Spent the rest of the evening watching TV, as usual.

Tuesday, July 24
Up around 7 a.m., and did stair stepping, resistance bands, and weights exercises. Mother and Sis came over mid-morning, and Mother made a batch of pimento cheese.
Once I was ready for the day, Hubbie, Sis, and I, hopped in the van to drive by the beauty shop where Sis will get a haircut tomorrow. Sis made an appointment today for 10:30 in the morning. Hubbie had called yesterday to get directions to the shop, which had moved from the address shown in the phone book (which is why we couldn't find it when we searched three times). The beauty shop was easy to find, so Sis will have no problem going there tomorrow.
Around 10:30, I met an appointment to get my hair cut at my regular beauty shop. I arrived early for my 11 a.m. appointment, but my stylist was ready for me, so I was back home before 11:30.
For lunch, we decided to sample the pimento cheese. Afterward, Mother headed to the couch for a nap, and I went to the art gallery for a couple of hours. Hubbie and Sis pursued their own activities.
Only two people came into the gallery while I was there, so I had plenty of time to read a novel on my e-reader. I was back home around 3:30.
Mother was up when I got back, so we gathered leftovers to put in oven dishes for a buffet supper. Watched TV the rest of the afternoon.
Supper included spaghetti and sauce, beans and ham, sauteed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and barbecued pork chops, plus the remainder of the cornbread.
Later, around 6:30, we went to see a community theater production of "Beauty and the Beast." Tonight was a dress rehearsal, which meant the performance was stopped from time-to-time to iron out kinks. By 9 p.m., it still wasn't intermission time, so we decided to leave. We enjoyed what we saw, though. The sets, props, and costumes were impressive, and the actors were cute. Though Sis has seen the animated feature, I have not, so now I'm anxious to rent it.
The theater was very stuffy and hot, so we were ready for cold watermelon when we got back home. Sis accompanied Mother home right away, since she was tired from the outing, and then she came to our house to fetch watermelon for the two of them.
Closed the day with a one-hour TV show.

Monday, July 23
Up at 6:30 to get ready to go to water aerobics. Very warm, humid day for the walk to the gym. The pool was cool, though, and felt wonderful after I was in it for a minute or two. There was a good group today, probably because there are only two more sessions until summer break.
Back home, Hubbie put color in my hair in anticipation of a haircut appointment tomorrow. Sis accompanied Mother to our house, where they watched a movie on DVR..."The Help." Mother had seen this movie before, but Sis had not.
By the time I was ready for the day, it was already 11:30, so I prepared a lunch of Ramen noodle soup for Mother, and deli turkey sandwiches, with cottage cheese, and fruits for dessert...oranges, cherries, and fresh figs.
Afterward, Mother retired to the couch for a nap, while Hubbie and Sis watched TV, and I reviewed the lesson plan for today's session.
At 2:15, Sis went to Mother's house to relax, and I went to the college to meet my student.
Today's lesson included using adjectives about feelings: "Pete is worried. His mother is very sick." "Mrs. Green is angry. It's half past three, and Lee isn't home."
The lesson also included adjectives plus prepositions plus nouns: "Pete is worried about his mother." "Mrs. Green is angry at Lee."
Also, adjectives plus prepositions plus verb-ing: "Lee Chan is worried about leaving his country." "Ed is afraid of swimming in cold water."
The studen also learned the use of "should." "You should stop smoking." "They should listen to their parents."
Then we worked on tag questions with "do," "does," and "did." The Masons have to pay a lot of bills, don't they?" "Lee didn't see the tree, did he?"
And tag questions with other verbs: "Jason and Gail have never painted a kitchen, have they?" "Tom shouldn't spend so much money, should he?"
In conversation, the student commented that her favorite kind of music is classical and opera. She also likes Spanish instrumentals, but not Spanish singers. She also commented that she likes good movies, and recommended the one she and her husband watched over the weekend..."The Flowers of War," starring Christian Bale. Sounds like one we should rent.
Back home, Hubbie had heated leftovers from last night for our supper...beans and ham, sauteed potatoes, and turnips, with a fresh batch of cornbread.
Afterward, we played several games of Skipbo. Sis and Hubbie won two games each, and I won one. None for Mother tonight, though we were rooting for her.
Sis and Mother went back to Mother's house after that, and Hubbie and I watched TV until bedtime.

Sunday, July 22
Up around 7:30, but skipped my exercises, as I usually do on Sunday. After breakfast, I started a pot of pinto beans cooking. Hubbie chopped veggies and ham for me. Sis and Mother came over mid-morning and started working on a jigsaw puzzle.
I did my usual Sunday routine, and then finished reading the John Grisham novel, "Calico Joe." Around 11 a.m., I simmered a pan of turnips, and sauteed potatoes in olive oil. Hubbie had peeled and sliced the potatoes earlier.
We enjoyed the beans and ham, potatoes, and turnips, with coleslaw, and sliced tomatoes, along with cornbread. Afterward, Mother retired to the couch for a nap, while Hubble, Sis, and I went to a town about fifteen miles away to buy watermelons from our favorite farmer.
Before we did that, we tried once again to locate the beauty shop for which we'd won a gift certificate at the fair. But again, we had no luck. We gave the certificate to Sis, who will try to call the shop tomorrow to make an appointment, and get specific directions on how to get there.
Back home, Mother was ready to get up, and we spent the afternoon watching mystery movies on the Hallmark Channel.
For supper, we had deli turkey sandwiches, with cheese, tomato, lettuce, and Vidalia onion on bread rounds, and a side of cottage cheese. Though the watermelon was not quite cold yet, we went ahead and had slices for dessert.
Then we spent the evening playing Skipbo. Mother won two games, and Sis, Hubbie, and I each won one. Sis accompanied Mother home after that, and Hubbie and I watched another suspense movie before hitting the sack.
